Guests can access cycle and walking routes directly outside River Retreat Apartment, so park up your car and travel to lots of destinations on foot or by bicycle.
The circular route follows the river and canal with pub stops along the way. The paths also lead to Exeter's historic Quay, the vibrant Cathedral City Centre and to the sandy beaches of Exmouth and Dawlish.
The quaint town of Topsham is also nearby with it's beautiful buildings and independent shops, cafes and restaurants.
The main bus stop to all destinations is about 5 minute walk from River Retreat Apartment.

River Retreat apartment is well placed to park up your car and explore many places on foot. There are many walks accessible from the front door including:

Historic Quay
Exeter's Historic Quayside is one of the most popular areas of the city. It takes 30 mins to walk along the river from River Retreat apartment or it's 5 mins by car.
It is busy with locals and visitors exploring the historical architecture and enjoying the livley pubs and trendy restaurants.
The Quay has interesting antique and craft shops to browse around or perhaps you'd prefer to take a boat trip down the shipping canal to one of the pubs on the locks. It's a wonderful place to spend your time.
Exeter Cathedral
Exeter Cathedral dates back 900 years and is a fine example of Gothic architecture. It has impressive carvings and the longest unbroken stretch of Gothic vaulting in the world.
The cathedral green is a lovely place to sit with a picnic, admire the grandeur of the historical buildings that frame the cathedral and soak up the atmosphere.
Topsham
The quaint historic estuary port of Topsham has a cosmopolitan atmosphere with an eclectic cluster of specialist shops and fine restaurants, plus wonderful sunsets above the estuary.
Once a thriving port and shipbuilding centre, Topsham still retains a strong maritime flavour.
Topsham shopping also offers a vibrant mix of boutiques, galleries, gifts, fine wines and foods, and antiques including several floors to browse at the former Customs House on the quay.
